Hey,

I have my Color4K-X up and running (shout outs to @EMPIRETECANDY , @Wildcat_1 and @user8963 - Fred for furnishing me with the camera in a speedy fashion, in perfect condition, and WC & user8963 for assisting me in configuring my revamped network, VLANs, the Netgate PFSense device and so on. Very much appreciated guys!)

I am now just putzing around in settings to get my bearings, and something came back up which I discovered early on - when I try and configure the camera within the Synology Surveillance Station software, I'm not seeing the Dahua equivalent of the Color4K-X camera. It's looking for this so it can load the capabilities of the camera. So far I am settling for 'Brand:Dahua' & 'Model: Generic_Dahua'. How are you guys handling this sort of thing?

Thanks

Well, it's added, and recording motion events etc just fine. But I have to think that Synology SS may not be fully able to exploit the camera capabilities right now. I can contact Synology on Monday as well. They may have an idea.

I was also thinking that you or someone here may also know if another Dahua camera is close enough to fit the bill. The list presented is pretty extensive.

Glad to help @NightLife and if you need anything else or help dialing in just DM.
Unfortunately the capabilities and sensor use for this cam were the first one in the series so nothing else really close. Definitely have a word with Synology and see if they can add profile support but as @EMPIRETECANDY mentioned this cam is still so new, it may be a while. Same BTW for QNAP NAS units with their surveillance plugin.

I would be interested to know any guesses on how a generic capability profile might alter the potential of this camera.

I'm just on my way to root around here for settings ideas for this camera. I have been tweaking it and the Synology live view looks very similar to when I live view directly into the camera, so I guess that's positive. I did recall the rookie mistake of bumping up the FPS, so I dropped that back down to 20 from 30. I book marked a few good threads on the topic that I'll consult.

What I can say is that my supplemental lighting needs to change. ha. Lets just say it's coloured, and I may as well be looking at Neptune. In the day, I notice the live views seem like liquid. The image has this ethereal quality where one minute it's laser focus and the next everything just drops out of focus, and goes to sh!t, and then back. So I'd like to troubleshoot that as well, if I can. I just don't want to chase my tail for a week, only to find out it's that generic profile which is killing me.

I don't use Synology but my guess would be probably not so much. Mostly what such profiles do is set up the communications and basic video parameters between cam and VMS. Assuming that's good and you have the cam/VMS communicating and the video streaming at whatever chosen rate and quality, then it's more dependent on camera settings and how the VMS itself works beyond the profile. But there can be lots of variance and complications within that especially when you start getting into events. But again I don't use Synology, just how such things typically work.

According to Synology everything should be supported when selecting Dahua and Generic Model.

In my opinion dahua uses the same config/stream settings on all models since ever. So it should be no big deal to select generic.

Perfect, I was hoping that to be the case. Make no mistake (anyone stumbling into this thread), the Color4K-X is a brilliant camera. It's the operator haha

I have been playing with settings, and it's apparent now how a couple low watt LED floods would do wonders. Low key, but enough that I would be able to turn the shutter speed down. Right now, for day settings, I have the shutter speed at 8.3ms and the gain at 10. I'm waiting for a wildlife triggering event to see how clear the animal is moving, but I suspect it will be much better than yesterday on day one before I really dug into the settings.

Here is a screen shot from this afternoon. Looks pretty good, but once the critters come along in several hours, I'll know for sure if any more daytime settings need adjustment. It's quite the balancing act. Challenge accepted. :p

Thanks mike. It sure beats the city, which is where I spent my life before moving into the woods. I particularly don't miss Toronto - even there people don't seem to sleep, and it's an endless parade of traffic day and night.

Critters here, versus crackheads there in dem cities. It's the respite I needed, to catch a breath for a moment, beyond the milling crowds.

That ridge line above the cliff on the left is the territorial divider between a few wolf packs, which I enjoy tracking in the winter. There are cougars in the vicinity but I haven't spotted one yet, and all manner of mid sized mammals. Foxes, fishers, martens, lynx, bobcat, porcupines, bunnies and all the rest. Raven nests in those cliffs, and above, and back a ways are the bald eagle nests so we see the eagles soaring, and fishing below most of the year, and the raven are old friends and have been coming here for handouts for generations, and bring their young to those rocks on the right side of the yard above. They teach their young to grab bread, dip it in a puddle to moisten before gobbling it down; repeat.

You should get some interesting captures. Curious to see what comes out at night.

Since we're spending your money, seems almost a shame not to have a big-ass, high-quality PTZ somewhere there. ; )

Don't worry, that's next. And since I don't really feel compelled to have a dozen cameras, when I do chose a second, or third, one of them is sure to be a show stopper. :headbang:

The three basic rules of video surveillance cameras-

Rule #1 - Cameras multiply like rabbits.
Rule #2 - Cameras are more addictive than drugs.
Rule #3 - You never have enough cameras.

The pic is very good, lucky guy live at such beautiful places. :)
