Blue Iris v5.9.9.11 x64

Folder Setup:

Database: C:\BlueIris\db
Alerts: c:\BlueIris\Alerts (Managed Folder, Unmanaged Drive) 1GB [Delete]
New: d:\BlueIris\New (Managed Folder, Unmanaged Drive) 6000GB allocated to BI / 7.27TB Total [Move to Stored]
Stored: e:\BlueIris\Stored (Managed Folder, Unmanaged Drive) 6000GB allocated to BI/ 7.27TB Total [Move to Aux_1]
Aux_1: g:\BlueIris\Stored (Managed Folder, Unmanaged Drive) 13000GB allocated to BI/ 14.5TB Total [Move to Aux_2]
Aux_2: h:\BlueIris\Stored (Managed Folder, Unmanaged Drive) 13000GB allocated to BI/ 14.5TB Total [Move to Aux_3]
Aux_3: i:\BlueIris\Stored (Managed Folder, Unmanaged Drive) 13000GB allocated to BI/ 14.5TB Total [Delete]

New, Stored, and Aux folders are used only for BI and no other folders/files exist on those drives.

Limit Clip Age is disabled on all folders.

C drive is an SSD drive for OS and BI Alerts/Database only. No footage stored on C drive.
Drives D, E, G, H, and I are Purple surveillance drives.

42 Total Cameras
26 Cameras recording continuous

Cameras that are recording continuous are generating a 4GB file about every hour in the New folder.

Even though BI is supposed to be managing the disk space by moving files around, and I can see the files being moved around both in the logs and on the disk, the D drive where the New folder is stored is running out of disk space on a regular basis. From what I can see, the D drive is filling up faster with video files faster than the BI disk management process can move the files between drives to free up space on the D drive for more video files.

I've seen multiple posts in various BI forums where people are assigning each camera to a specific drive/folder and setting the folders to Delete instead of Moving files from one folder to the next.

I've also seen suggestions to create a large Storage Space out of the multiple Purple drives to expose them to BI as one large drive.

Open to any and all suggestions on this setup regarding the issue of the New drive/folder filling up, and any follow-up questions anyone may have.

Thank you.

You should not be moving folders around to drives in the same computer box. Wasting CPU and prematurely killing the drives. Only move if going out the network cable to a NAS. And the DB is fragile so you are opening up the DB to getting corrupt. Combining it into one drive will also cause issues at some point.

Best Practice is to spread the cameras among your drives and split the cameras so that if one drive goes out, you don't lose complete coverage.

For example, you have 4 drives - some may set the front on one drive, the left side on another drive, the backyard on another drive and the right side on the last drive. But then when one drive goes out you lose that whole side of the house.

So if you have 8-10 cameras on each side of the house, spread those among the 4 drives.

Thank you for the prompt response and confirming what I had thought would be my solution to the problem.

I already have a plan to split the cameras across the various disks, but did not consider splitting the buildings across the disks so that if a disk fails, there is still coverage for other parts of the building. That is SOLID advice!

Thanks again!
