Generally, a "subnet" refers to a range of private IP addresses, such as 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 or 10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.254.

If your LAN's subnet is like the first of the 2 above, then devices on that LAN should also be in that range, either by you assigning unique static IP's to them in that subnet OR having the DHCP devices get an IP from a router's DHCP server consisting of a pool of addresses in that same 192.168.1.XXX subnet.

To "connect computer to subnet", either have the PC in DHCP mode and let the router assign it an IP from it's DHCP pool OR assign the PC a unique, static IP in that same subnet BUT outside of the router's DHCP pool.
