Custom Firmware for a generic NVR setup since product support/updates is non-existent and I hate the features?

I got a 4 Camera Wireless Solar Powered setup with NVR for incredibly cheap
WEILAILIFE NVR but I got it for only $100

So I can connect the cameras to the NVR but there are some serious issues preventing this from being useful for my needs:
  • The webgui for the NVR doesn't play videos. It has a section that appears to be desined just for that, but it doesn't work meaning everything has to be done via NVR with mouse and monitor
  • Cannot change camera IP address, or configure camera protocols
  • The ONLY way to get cameras to connect to the NVR is via the NVR's own broadcasted SSID which you can't even hide
  • Documentation is almost non-existent and where it does exist it is incorrect/outdated
Things I have tried:
  • Reset a camera and searched for new broadcasted SSIDs, which come up as something along the lines of "INCXXXXXXX" with the password being "11111111". I can connect to the camera, the default gateway being 172.14.10.1, but I do not know how to configure the camera once connected to its broadcasted wifi
  • Reset a camera and successfully got it to connect to my home wifi network with the phone app EseeCloud but the app does not allow any further configuring of the camera
    • This was the app recommended by the NVR itself (app recommended by weilailife doesnt work)
    • Once the IPcam is on my local network I still don't know how to pull the stream or configure it
    • If I diconnect the NVR from LAN and connect it to wifi it sometimes detects the camera but when adding the camera, the NVR basically tells to camera 'you shouldnt be on that wifi, get on mine instead' and the camera leaves my local network
  • Change camera protocol. Its not possible via the NVR but when you change it via webgui the camera just keeps failing to connect and I have to reset it
  • Connect to the webgui from an antiquated browser with ActiveX support, still no webgui camera feed
  • Tried pulling NVR stream via VLC, including setting the demuxer to H264, both rtsp and port 80, etc... can't get it to work
Things to note:
  • NVR board says "SSR521Q_V202P1_NVR04" and nothing comes up but it looks exactly like a "NBD80S16S-KL" board
  • Camera protocol is listed as "N1" when connected to the NVR
I'm hoping to get some recomendations on other apps to try, or a computer program to configure the cameras from my computer once I get them on my local network. If there is an app that I can use to connect from off my local network that would be great, I have port forwarding set up for a home web server so it shouldnt be too hard, I'd just need better firmware for my NVR.

If anybody knows about firmware compatability, I'm looking for something that has the following capabilities:
  • Ability to modify broadcast SSID, including hide it and assign IPs
  • Ability to actually configure cameras
  • Ability to add cameras already on the local network via IP address
  • A functioning webgui
  • SSH access so I can actually see the filesystem
  • NAS capabilities would be a bonus but not a requirement
If you think the cameras are configurable but forcing the NVR to use different firmware might be impossible, I have a spare low power computer I could turn into an NVR.
Thanks. I appreciate any help/advice.
