Thinking of going back to Hikvision for the better email setup. But, Andy says it is hard to connect Dahua cams to Hikvision Nvr.
Can someone elaborate please?

I have just given up on finding a way to make Dahua send me good picture emails. Hikvision will send me 1 email for event with several photos. But, all this can be done from camera of course. So, as long as I can view it with ONVIF, I think it will be ok.All ONVIF means is that the video for sure will come thru. Advanced features like AI may or may not work.
Meaning it might send you too many emails if you can't differentiate the AI.
Manufacturer and best practice is to match brand of camera and NVR to ensure full functionality.
Not broken, get the same as you. For every motion event I get 2 emals. 1 event email, dont want it. Then another email containing 1 photo which I then have to click on to open. PITAI get great email pictures from my Dahua NVR and cameras. I only get 1 image, but that’s ok with me, it’s a notification
I also get a push alert Ding on my phone which I can then click on and get a pic and a video of the event..
Yours must be broken
Phone alerts don`t work well if you are in the drivers seat or an airplane. But, they are useful if you have the time to pick up the phone. I mostly do not need immediate alerts. Just want to look at photos at end of day to see who has been in. Multiple photos help better with identifying who is doing what.Ok, glad it works for ya.
I use my phone/DMSS alerts mostly
Also, don`t forget. Dahua send 2 emails each time. 1 for alert, then 1 for photo, then I have to click on photo to open. 2 extra steps to see only 1 photo. Ridiculous. While driving or in an airplane? really
You dont have to open or click on anything to get your email? HUD glasses?
Yeah I can review alerts, with video, on the phone at the end of the day too when remote
So really we're talking about 1 pic vs 3 when you boil it down..
Look its oyur stuff so whatever, but changing manufacturers for 1 vs 3 emails just seems extreme to me
:Just don't be shocked when the AI or some other feature doesn't work and either sends you too many alerts or none at all:Just don't be shocked when the AI or some other feature doesn't work and either sends you too many alerts or none at all...
You could always set up an email rule to delete one of the photos automatically...
I guess you got it all figured out then...
If you are going to expose the cameras to the internet and not use the built-in firewall of the NVR, then you have taken the NVR out of the equation....so then how exactly will connecting your Dahua cams to a Hikvision NVR change the email behavior of the Dahua cams if you are going to bypass the NVR and send the emails from the camera directly?
So if for the Dahua cams you have will indeed have the NVR send the email because you like Hikvision email better than Dahua, then we are back to my don't be shocked if the NVR sends too many alerts or not enough if the AI of the camera doesn't completely line up with the operation of the NVR...
Never said I was going to change at this time. BUT, I do have a tool room that I need multiple photos from. Will order new Hikvision cam to address the problem. But the WHOLE POINT of YOUR THREAD was changing to Hikvision NVR for the better email experience - WTF change to a Hikvision NVR at this time if you are not going to use the feature you want from Hikvision....
Yeah Andy used to sell Hikvision in the past, but their offerings haven't kept up with Dahua and is why he dropped them....I just recently replaced my last Hikvision LOL, so we are on equal but opposite viewpoints LOL.
