Dahua firmware on Lorex E841CA

Hi all,
Has anyone had any luck getting Dahua firmware loaded into a Lorex E841CA? I have the correct firmware, the ID matches completely (all the way, including all the numbers at the end), but the UI firmware update fails, I've also had no luck with the TFTP procedure and I took the camera apart to find there was no header for a serial interface, either.

It is in a thread here somewhere that Lorex and Amcrest (and others) are hardcoding the cameras to only accept firmware from their respective companies. Some are even not allowing people to downgrade firmware of a camera anymore.

I am sure someone can probably figure out a way around it, but is it really worth the hassle at that point.
