Dahua IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E to get plates at 260 feet?

So, i am about to get the Dahua IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E.
From my reading all over the forum i think this model may do the job!
What i want to do is just to record the car moving and of course the plate number.
From my home to the stop sign is about 260 feet , where the cars stop and i think the camera can pick up the plate really good.
My concern is the feet distance, if camera can do it. I see that the camera is ir 200 meter witch is about 650 feet.

So i wanted to know if possible to achieve the distance at night to capture the cars and plates. I have not seen anyone in the forum talking about such a long distance (260ft) to capture at night .

Also i have seen some users talking about camera had some issues changing from day to night time on auto, or do we have to do it manually? Was the firmware fixed by Dahua? or, as i don't think i am ready every night to do it manually!.

As for LPR , not sure the exact laws here in California, for storing plate numbers on your machine, but i know that in my city here , if i want i can register the camera at the Police Department , so in any case if there something going on at my street , they can come to ask for the video clips.
Anyone achieved with this camera and windows software to store the plates ? Sorry new to Lpr , don't know much about it.

Anyway, any advice on this and what direction should i go, will appreciate!

Angles matter. Parked cars could block the view.

I think most people have been targeting a higher ppf. A higher resolution camera can be helpful for lpr, higher res models don't have as much zoom.

There's a great thread on this camera, I would check it out. From the camera location do you have a clear view? It looks from the overhead that there are items in the way of a clear shot. While the stop sign is obviously nicer, you can get good shots on moving cars as well as long as the angle is not too bad. Do you have any cameras now even different models that you could at least set one up for test shots?

I would also be worried about the focus issues being more prevalent at full zoom.

IR is not going to be your limiting factor, as you can add an external IR illuminator. You will probably need to do that to overcome the car headlights anyways.

I know if i go more closer, and not all way to the stop sign will be better for sure, but there at the stop sign the speed of the vehicle is at lowest and the camera should catch that plate really nice! As for the cars , some time there is
So by having higher PPF looks like u get a better image reading the plate , but then u not covering a wider part of the street.
You mean like a 4 MP or even 6 or 8 Mega Pixel Cameras , Will be better for this?

Yes, most of the time i have clear view path to the stop sign and over head is clear too. No available cameras to test out, had a huisun v1 witch was fine when it worked , but distance was only 110,120 feet to cover (see attached picture). And Yes i am little worry about going at to much zoom out, then will lose focus too,then may not getting good reading!, but at 200 meter = 650 ft , if i go with PPF @ around 100 may work.
About the External IR illuminator , never used one, and how to u install those? just give them power and point in the same direction as the camera? or...

Correct. Most do not come with power adapters, ours does (ir illuminator)

As this camera specs say 200m IR, I'll be following to see the IR at less than half distance at 260ft, and how well it lights up the focal area.
The spec also says identify at 288ft, max zoom I expect?
