Hi there,
are there written instructions for setting up IVS on my EmpireTech cams? I've been looking at example videos all afternoon and just don't see what I'm missing.

For example:

I cannot get the rule to turn 'blue' (even in 'Live View'), and there's no indication that it's working.

Things I've tried/considered:
  • add an SD card
  • Smart Plan is enabled
  • Smart Motion Detection is enabled (though I think this is a different detection method)
  • Firmware update is needed? The UI is much different in some of the YouTube videos.

All 3 of my 'Dahua' cams have this issue, so there's some setting I must be missing.

Thanks!

Are you recording to an NVR?
How do you know its not recording?
Smart Plan is enabled- ie the light bulb is highlighted?
What browser are you using?

SMD is entirely separate. Turn it and regular MD off for now
FW isnt likely the problem, leave it alone for now

I have always recorded to Blue Iris - haven't installed internal SD cards.
I'm using MS Edge...just switched to Firefox to see if that is a factor.
SMD and regular MD are disabled.

Based on your feedback I reviewed my record settings, and am indeed recording events after installing an SD card. This is from a Loryta IPC-3541F:

I was expecting an indication in Live View of the event being triggered (blue lines turning red), or the in setup page when saving (green lines turning blue). Perhaps that's a feature of other camera's firmware.

Ok so I don’t think you’re too far off but we’re gonna need a BI guy as I don’t use it. I’m an NVR guy.

O.K., I've overcome the browser issue and am moving on to 'Global Setup'!

Question - how do you draw a vertical ruler when the scene has no vertical surfaces? For example, in this scene the fence slats are vertical in real-life, but the drawn rulers are vertical from the screen perspective. You cannot click then drag the line to match the vertical surface:

Thanks everyone! :)

I have someone hold an object of a known length and tell them to angle left or right LOL. Or turn your camera until those fence slats are vertical LOL

But that is also a pretty tight field of view so you may not need to do it. I have only had to do global config on a few cams. If you aren't getting false triggers, don't mess with it LOL.

Sounds good. If i'm not getting triggered consistently (tripwires), could calibration help?

Yeah, but so can the settings, especially if you are running everything on auto/default settings like shutter, brightness, etc. I would make those adjustments first and then look at global config.

I had previously used your exposure settings - very helpful.

I used camera tripods to hold my 1-meter sticks, then did the Global Setup. The horizontal line can be angled while drawn. It didn't seem to help:

What ultimately has fixed it is to upgrade to the latest firmware for the IPC-T5442T (provisioned by Andy). I think I'm in business now! :)
