Is it possible to install Dahua NVR firmware on a virtual machine? Has anyone tried this or found a workaround?

I have never heard of anyone doing that.

I guess anything is possible with enough effort, but why LOL?

If going to a virtual machine, then go with a program that is more robust than an NVR is.

I’m running BI on Ryzen 5950x but I’m curious about NVR version of software. I couldn’t do much with BI due to lack of knowledge.

Are you talking about the actual firmware that is on an NVR or the PC-NVR option Dahua has.

The PC-NVR option is horrible and don't waste your time.

That is the great thing about this forum, between the 200 plus page BI manual and asking questions here, you can get all the answers you need for the issues you are having with BI.

Probably no for multiple reasons:
1. The CPU in the NVR is not the same architecture as in your PC
So you need emulation not just virtualization.
2. The CPU/SOC has special hardware support for encoding/decoding video, so not sure you can emulate this.
3. Even if you would solve 1+2 the emulation will most likely cost you in 10x overhead (at least on your x86).
