dahua nvr. rtsp to nvr authentication failing.

i have a DHI-NVR5232-4KS2. it's a 32 channel nvr
i can't RTSP to the NVR channel. I'm using VLC and it keeps saying,
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'rtsp:/nvr32/cam/realmonitor?channel&subtype=0'. Check the log for details.

I check the log and there's no entry reflecting. It does this only if the password is correct.
If the password is incorrect, it just prompts me again.
I can RTSP to the IP Cameras directly just fine.

Try the following URL in VLC; substitute your NVR's user and password, the NVR's LAN IP and the channel of the camera (1 through 32 for a 32 channel NVR).
NOTE: Be sure to place 2 forward slashes ( "/" ) after "rstp:" in the URL for VLC.

rtsp:/NVR-Username:NVR-Password@NVR-LAN-IP/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0
