I'm a networking and ipcam newb... Are there any instructional resources for setting up a Dahua NVR (non-poe)? I tried remoting into it, using EasyViewer, and can't seem to get a camera setup. I don't have a monitor laying around to connect to the NVR yet. Do I have to connect to NVR locally for setup? I can't dive into BI yet (time and money), but I suspect eventually I will go that route.

One thing I noticed was the IP for the NVR and camera was the same 192.168.1.108. That can't be right, but I don't know how to change it? I'm looking at them in my Unifi network controller.

I don't have any camera installed outside yet, I'm just bench testing first. But all my Cat6 cables are run to the future camera locations so I just have to mount them and plug them in once everything is functional.

My Equipment
NVR:
Dahua NVR5208-4KS2 w/ 6gb HDD

Cameras:
(1) Dahua IPC-HFW5231E-Z5
(4) Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z

NETWORK
Xfinity
Arris 6183
Ubiquiti USG
Ubiquiti POE Switch US-16-150W
Ubiquiti POE Switch US-8-60W

Its Best for first time setup to use a monitor, The NVR and camera by default have the SAME IP Address. You can change it when you log into the NVR and camera.

Perfect. Got it up and running. So sweet. Now the fun begins figuring out the NVR interface...boy seems like a million options.
If you think its running and stable, then its time to back up your NVR and Camera config files. You can back them up to a computer, network share or a usb drive. If you are new to some of the settings and functions and start messing around, you WILL screw it up sooner or later. Having backed up config files for all your hardware might save you a trip up a ladder to do a factory reset.

Great advice thank you. I'm even close yet, but I might as well make incremental backups as I go, it will still save time if/when I screw it up.

I don't think it's actually recording at all. I installed 6gb HDD and I can hear it spin up, but I don't see any history. I tried to set motion detection on the camera, so maybe I screwed that up somehow.

Its a two step process to get em recording, did you go into storage and enable a recording schedule, you can set motion and regular recordings.

Did you go into the drive management and test and format the drives?
