New member but have spent hours reading through posts and studying feedback to get to this point. I have been in contact with Andy about a pending purchase and I am looking for feedback from owners on the Dahua NVRs that I am considering.

I am planning to install two HDW5231R-ZE cameras in the front of our house. I don't anticipate adding more than 1-2 cameras down the road. I have two stubbed cat 5e accessible in the garage that I plan to use. My main alarm and a/v cabling terminates in a closet upstairs. I am trying to decide on the best Dahua NVR for the price that meets my needs and not over purchase.

I am looking at these two POEs.

NVR5208-8p-4ks2
NVR4108-8p-4ks2 lite (wall mountable)

I could probably even get away with a 4 channel of the 4108. The 4108 is wall mountable which is a plus for my situation. The built in POE switch provides initial simplicity to get up and running and I understand that I can always add an external POE switch deprecating the internal switch for greater camera control and security. I did a line by line spec comparison of the two models and they are almost identical except for the following points.

5208 support compression of H.265+ which is great for 8mp cameras but not a huge deal for the 2mb turrets. With the standard H.265 compression, the online calculator says a 4tb drive will provide +60 days of continuous recording with the two HDW5231R-ZE cameras. The 5208 also supports integration with Alarm systems and the P2P network function. Not sure I have a need for these. 5208 can hold 2 SATA drives vs. 1 for the 4108, not a big deal to me. The 5208 support 1GB network speed vs. 10/100MB for 4108, again not a huge deal for me since my entire house is wired with cat 5e.

Question 1 - Given operating system and processor are the same, is the software also the same?

Question 2 - Will I be able to view these cameras and receive motion alerts on my mobile device with both NVRs, which apps are people using and is there a good resource that I haven't come across yet on this forum?

Question 3 - Any feedback or notable differences from existing owners of both NVR's that would influence my decision one way or the other?

The price difference is about $100.

I appreciate the feedback.
