Getting the hang of it

I hate this camera, the older version UI is much better, anyways I go into the camera, customized scene, set focus then apply, (focus is set to manual is customized theme and in day/night scence), I then click on day/night theme and apply, every day the focus from the previous day is gone and the camera is not focused for day (focus is blurry and won't read plates). I do not use the time plan settings, instead I used the day/night switch, the only thing I can think of is the camera isn't switching to night scene soon enough and I imagine to do that I would have to enable time plan. Thanks in advance.

Correct. I've found with LPR you simply can't rely on Day/Night and letting the camera sensor decide when its the right time to switch. I use a manual schedule switching to B&W 45 min before sunset and again 30-45 min After sunrise to switch back to color.

There shift in focus between IR and color is real.

The new GUI is supposed to hold the focus number, but it has some "weirdness" to set it.

I have found that you cannot set the focus simply by selecting the profile - the camera has to actively be in said profile or it will revert back to the focus for the profile that the camera thinks it should be in based on light.

So during the middle of the day, like right now, have someone stop in the middle of the field of view and hit the focus button and get a good focus.

Then tonight about an hour or two after the sun sets and the camera has switched to night profile, have someone stop out there in the middle of the field of view and hit the focus button.

With the focus set to manual, you should now have two different focus numbers - one for the day and one for the night. It should then go back to the day focus tomorrow.

Thanks, I have been using my wife to stop in the camera view (she is starting to get mad at me), I focus in on the plate under live view for both day and night, then I go to customized scene and click it, hit apply, then click day/night switch and hit apply, the older version of this camera has been rock solid for me, reads everything, this newer on is a pain in the ass and very frustrating on my end. Manual focus is set for both day and night scenes, I think I'm gonna try the schedule feature and see if that helps.
