USA
This camera model is a year old, give or take, but I've wanted one for a long time and I spotted it shipped and sold by Newegg for $259 today. This is directly competitive with the cheapest 4K cameras on aliexpress, but from a top-tier USA based retailer. So I ordered one. The the next thing I knew, it was out of stock. I think I got the last (only?) one they had for sale.

I will post pictures and video after it arrives next week. I will have it pointing more or less the same direction as a 4MP dahua that has a 6mm lens, and there are a few Hikvision 3MPs in the area too, so there will be quite a bit of IR flooding the area. I will also post fresh pics from each of the nearby cams for comparison purposes.

Update: Pictures and video are posted later in this thread, at the end of page 1 and the start of page 2.

I been waiting for this.. *highfive*

there are guys on Ali that will sell you the IPC-HDBW81200E-Z for $375 USD...

1/1.7" sensor, motorized lens, not bad, we've bought around 10 of them now

You must have to negotiate for that price. The best prices I see are $458.28 and $460 for one of those (including shipping). I wonder how those compare against their cheaper brothers in low light, though I don't wonder enough to buy both. For the $100-$200 difference I can add a lot of supplemental IR to my driveway and front yard and then all the cameras benefit a lot, not just one a little.

IPVM gave the 4800 a pretty bad rap from memory, one of those cam's that even in the daylight it's not as clear as others that are the same resolution.

and yes, I negotiated (always do)

They currently list it as in stock at the moment, unless it's a false listing. Perhaps they restocked since 3 days ago.

Hopefully it arrives soon, and in one piece without incident.

Right on queue. Thanks Scooby!

Here are some video captures.

These were done with Blue Iris, direct to disk, with these encoding settings:

Custom bit rate 11520 wouldn't stick, and the camera kept bumping it down to 8192. So I chose the highest value in their dropdown. This is also the maximum frame rate and resolution the camera is capable of. It bumps up my CPU usage in blue iris by 5-10% in service mode, and 8-15% with the GUI open! (i7-3770k CPU, intel hardware acceleration enabled)

These are the day and night WDR capabilities. I am pretty sure it is all digital WDR with this model.

WDR off, 1, 50, and 100, respectively:

Honestly, in this comparison none of the cams look good at night but they were cheap, but this 4k one for $250 is just pathetic. Daylight, is not that great either though considering the cost at full 4k, but watching it in 1080p is fine.

I've added night pictures and a video above. By the way, the bright spotlight circle is from a http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001BC17BW which has been going strong for nearly 4 years.

Settings are still on auto.

Increased exposure times make the image much brighter and sharper, but also everything that moves becomes a streak.

For example,

1/6 exposure

1/3 exposure. Note the person walking down the road.
