What is the difference between the Import/Export option under the Maintenance menu and the Export option under the Advanced menu in Dahua IP cameras? If I want to factory reset my camera after updating the firmware, which option is the most suitable for backing up all my custom settings?

For the Import and Export features you are able to save the config of the NVR or Cameras and Import them back to those devices with the config. So redoing larger systems that you need to Factory Reset this feature is great to be able quickly restore settings. I personally don't know exactly which settings it save to the config but I have done some testing on it personally. You can check out this blog I wrote for Montavue as I do Tech Support for them and it should be the same for what you have there.

Not sure I understand your question?

The NVR export under Maintenance will save a config file for the NVR. The NVR does not have ALL settings for each camera, only common ones. Too many possible settings across hundreds of models of cameras.

Thus if you want to save config for the camera itself, I'd use the export function under System/Manager for each camera

Best practice is to set it up from scratch as an import may bring in something wonky or not completely work with the new firmware, especially if something were added or deleted.

Doesn't mean many don't have a problem importing, but I will take the few extra moments to set up from scratch.

When you are logged into the camera you can use that Import/Export feature to save the config on how the camera is setup like your IVS rules for example. I was able to Import the file I saved to be able to set all my rules up without having to take the time to set it all up again.

I think I said that.
