Different static recording bitrates, same DS-2CD2542FWD cameras

Hi everyone, I have 6 DS-2CD2542FWD cameras. All with the same firmware V5.5.82 build 190220. All with the same video and recording settings.

H264+, Variable bitrate, max bitrate 3072, Max average 1536. Same NAS server but different shared folders, same NFS settings.

What I've found is with 2 of the cameras, at nightime, the variable bitrate works really well. Same file recording size records for much longer, some up to nearly 2 hours.

However with the other 4 cameras, the performance doesn't really change at night time, improves slightly. Same reduced movement situations as the other 2 cameras. I've even tried uploading the same config parameters and it hasn't helped.

I'm racking my brain over what is different between the cameras but they all basically have static images at night and should same on bandwidth on all 6.

Do I need to flash the firmware again on the 4 cameras? thanks in advance for your thoughts.

^+1 - every field of view results in different demands and requirements. If the camera sees a lot in the field of view, even if static, requires bitrate.

My two identical cams, one for LPR duty and the other pointed at same location but to catch the color and make of car, the LPR will drop down to 7 at night because the image is all black until a car comes by, while the other camera is around 2000.

Thx so much for your replies. One camera with good night time performance has a wide view across the lounge and kitchen, wide and deep (up to 2 hours recording same file size). The other looks across a rumpus not as wide but deep (only 40 mins)

Understand different views will impacr performance but didn't realise that much. Good to hear it's most likely normal.

@wittaj ,what ratings were you referring to for the 7 and 2000 references, how do you measure?

I use Blue Iris, so I just pull up the camera status and see what bitrates are being sent from the cameras.

That was one example, but I have several pairs of cameras and none of them are at the same bitrate unless I force it to constant bitrate.
