Does a 1/1.2” IR camera exist?

I have a mixture of Dahua cameras, some being the newer S3 variants. There decent but I still find the night image to be pretty lacking. I see the newer cameras that have the 1/1.2” sensor, but it’s only the color ones that have the LEDs on all the time.

Have there been any announcements around 1/1.2” cameras using IR? Really hopeful that if/when these come the night performance will be better.

I assume you're already aware of the Empiretech PTZ4K45X-AI ? (Andy's part# for the Dahua SD8C845FG-HNF) It can do B&W w/IR or Color w/white-LEDs, but it's pricey (> $2k). On the plus side, it's picture quality is pretty good. :)

I believe Hikvision also has one large-sensor 2MP PTZ cam, but somebody here tried one a couple months ago (there was a thread about it). But that specific Hik had unacceptable "camera shake" whenever the PTZ moved, and I believe the owner returned it because Hik was not willing to address the problem. Very sad IMHO. Not sure if it was a "design problem", or something wrong with that one specific cam.

As far as I know, there are no "affordable" fixed cams with 1/1.2 that support IR. I am quite bummed about this. It's especially frustrating that Dahua has apparently EOL'd the PTZ4K45X (though Andy says they are still available), and so far Dahua has not named amy "successor".

So IMHO, the market seems to be going the "wrong way" on large-sensor cams.

If anybody here is aware of anything coming down the pipeline, I'd like to know as well..

NO - old Sony Starvis 1/1.2" 8Mpx sensor wasn't IR enhanced. So it was used only in white light cameras.

There is a new version - from Starvis 2 line, which is IR enhanced as all sensors for CCTV cams.
But I didn't see any Chinese camera based on it yet.

If You look for something with IR and better night image performance that 5442 in Dahua fixed cams offering - there are only 2 possibilities.

First is 7442 - which is ultra line version of 5442 with brighter lenses (F1.2) and more powerful SOC / advanced ISP. But price is high and there are only bullet/dome versions and difference is not so big.

Second is a new TIOC-PRO 3449-PRO series (plus cheaper/basic 2449-PRO) - in Andy shop called Color4M (not 4K).
They use 1/1.8" sensor but with full open aperture (F1.0) and totally new line of SOC with AI-ISP processing (AI based noise reduction).

This is very new line of cams with not finished firmware (as a today). Factory firmware don't have enabled AI-ISP features (but work better that 5442), there is beta version which enabled it.
This camera generated very bright, colorful and dynamic image at night. Use very strong HDR and LUT color remappings (taken from mobile/sport/drone camera world) and totally new image processing pipe-line.

It have both white and IR light, can work in different modes (like IR at night, white/color mode activated with detection of people/cars or full color mode all night with white light activated by SMD).
it has also speaker/siren/alarm LEDS.

Do you think it will take awhile for them to get the new firmware for the Color4M? I just got mine the other day!!

I think that we will wait about month-two for final firmware...
For now as I told there is factory firmware, two versions after factory (with small changes) and latest beta 00007.241018 with AI-ISP enabled..

I have installed it on many Color4M - on some it gives much much better results, but on some (where are totally dark places) it creates more problems (strange static noise) that previous non AI-ISP version..

All versions I put here:

I'm wondering if the Color4M and other newer cameras will get the animal detection firmware, or is it a dead end with the 541 S3 series?

Have you properly tuned your camera for it's fov?
NO camera will perform it's best if not properly tuned.
