need some opinions on whether I should install a dome here rather than a 2231 turret ? I’m leaning towards dome because it’s in a somewhat rough area of town, street is lit up and it’s kinda covered from rain.

I think you might mean 5231 ? A Dome would be more tamper proof, however a determined person will smash either one.

I mostly use Andy’s IPC-HDW2231R-ZS because I don’t need audio or epoe

I'd only consider a dome if it's going to be pointed towards the street. If it's going to point in towards any part of the building at all (i.e. covering the door), I'd be worried about IR bouncing back and messing up the image.

Good point. I kinda want it to do both. Depends on how lit up street is I quess. I’ve installed cameras down town before and IR don’t even come on. Unless hydro outage.

I should just tuck the camera tight into the corner and as low as possible. After all there is city bylaws that forbid you to point cameras on the street.

I would like to have the benefits of a turret (fewer spider webs and better IR) with the anonymity of where the lens is pointed in a dome.

With the newer starlight domes, if I don’t have to use IR, I would prefer domes.
