Any suggestions for a good drone detection software to pair with Axis cameras? I imagine there is some sort of radar unit that will be required too.

Any feedback or experiences is appreciated!!

also not sure what you mean by pair with the Axis camera...
sorry if that was unclear, just meant to use with axis cameras. camera provides the visual then software and/or additional radar will detect the drones. ideally there would be some sort of integration between the two technologies.

also, will check out echodyne thank you

What kind of drones are you looking to detect? The <250 gram drones are very difficult to see with the naked eye when they are flying at 400' You can hear them faintly, but almost impossible to see. What will you do with the info if you could spot one?

i honestly don't anything about drone sizes but will try to find out. client is having issues with drones overhead and wants the ability to detect using a visual camera solution. i suppose if they spot one it just gives awareness that yes a drone is on-site

You will find these types of cameras are not going to be good for that.

A 2.8 or 3.6mm wide angle camera will not pick those up at any height.

Heck my neighbor crashed his into his house and it really couldn't be seen from my cameras.

Tell client to check with other branches of the agency, they know ;)

I don't think any of my cameras, even the 30X Hikvision PTZ would detect a <250 gram drone. They move too fast and are pretty small. I have a Protensic ATOM I bought last year. I can't see it @ 400 elevation on a clear day. I can barely hear it. Being under 250 grams, It doesn't require the digital ID transponder that anything larger than 250 grams is required by the FFA. If you want to know what the aircraft ID is and where the operator is at, just use: ‎Drone Scanner You can get it for android, also. I don't know how well it works. My drone doesn't require it.

I have seen some drone pilots over in Europe that have flown with the Drone ID transponder. The Karens over there would come zooming up in their vehicles, get out and try to pick a fight with the pilots. Funny, you can get in serious trouble with the feds if you try to confront a drone pilot while they are in flight or attempt to take out a drone, just because you don't like it. Most of the drone pilots over there wear Go-Pro cameras on their chests, so they can easily turn over the video of someone messing with them or their drone while they are flying, to the feds. The funniest ones to watch are when security guards or the local police keep telling the pilots that they aren't allowed to fly drones.

Interesting question! For object detection, will we see human, vehicle, drone, and hopefully animal, too? Will we be buying more cameras to point at the sky?
