Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to install my first camera, a DS-2CD2332-I. I would like it to cover my front porch and entry door. For those who have installed this camera, what is the ideal distance to mount the camera in order to capture a decent facial shot? If I mount the camera at a distance, could I zoom a recorded image without losing too much quality?

The digital zoom on these cams is not great. For facial shots I would go between 6 and 8 feet. Problem is you run into someone being able to touch the camera and if they have a hat on and purposely look down.

Ok thanks. I get what you're saying and this was my concerned while discussing it with my wife too. I will just mount it away from the doorway in a manner where I can at least capture a good image. The way the doorway is positioned people stand in front and look to the left. There's a wall to the right. To the left is where the camera will be mounted on the wall of the house so I should get a pretty good shot.
