As promised, the ambient street light comparison screen shots... with and without the bulkhead light.
For purposes of this test, the cameras were mounted side by side behind glass that has a grey tint mirror film.
Bulkhead light on, 1.3MP on the left... the 1.3 wins
Bulkhead light off, the 1.3MP on the left wins by an even greater margin.
Bottom line, In situations where reading number plates is not required, then the real world bandwidth & camera cost savings are well worth taking advantage of... ( unless your running a munga set up with a i99 processor
)
Sure in the daylight the 3.0MP camera gives a far superior quality image that's well suited for enlargement and printing on photographic grade paper, but when the lights fade then its horses for courses.
