DS-7608NI-K2 - use DS-7608NI-I2 firmware

Hi all

I have a DS-7608NI-K2 NVR.

I am generally happy with it, with one big caveat. The only way to view recordings, and make settings where a live view is needed is to use an older laptop that still runs Internet Explorer because an ActiveX plugin is needed.

All major browsers have deprecated support for ActiveX.

Hikvision does offer this functionality without the plugin, but not for my NVR: Browser and Plugin Support of Hikvision Products

Looking at the specs, the DS-7608NI-K2 and DS-7608NI-I2 look to be very close. Even the design is the same.

Has anyone tried to flash a different firmware on their NVR?

Yes, I'm aware I can brick it. But I'm willing to take this shot if there is a chance it will work.

I believe you dont need entire firmware for K2 from I2 to make this work, I believe you need to replace web package only inside firmware. In order to do that you would need to extract firmware, and replace webpackage. And i believe you cant do that without decryption keys(please someone prove me wrong)
