Long time listener, first time caller. I’ve been in the low voltage and IT fields for quite some time. I was recently given several HIK and Dahua IP cameras and decided to install them at my home. That lead me down the cctv rabbit hole…. I wanted a weather camera. I decided on the EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-T180. I’m running Synology Surveillance Station on a VM inside VMWare ESXI at my home.
Here’s a YouTube livestream link from surveillance station and the T180:
And here is a Timelapse of the last couple hours since I installed the camera:
For the moment the camera is installed on an unguyed mast made from fence rail, attached to an I-Beam that will eventually form one of the corner supports for a lean-to on my shop. Approx height is 16ft. Once I get back from Thanksgiving vacation I’ll make the install more permanent. I plan to mount the camera on a stronger mast on top of my shop, and add a second T180 for 360 degree coverage.
For camera settings, I’m running highest res, gain priority, with max gain set to 70%, and no change between day and night mode. Hopefully this will allow the camera to adjust shutter settings to maintain a decent image during the day as well as night, but I haven’t had a chance to test it during the day. Also have the splice distance set to max (200m). I live in the country, but have a decent bit of light pollution to deal with. I’m open to advice and suggestions.
Thanks for reading!
