Empiretech 4k-T \ T-180 and NVR 5-el. AI settings.

Hi all, i am a new owner of a relatively basic empiretech setup, currently 5 cameras (3x t-180 and 2x T (2.8mm) and an NVR 5-el.

All working as advertised apart from the AI. I initially set up the 3 180 degree cams and found the AI disappointing. It detects people only relatively centrally and even then, often misses people entirely, even 4-6 metres from cam.

At the same time they often identify the dog as a person. Andy suggested the 180 degree cam is not great for AI compared to the normal T model. After that i installed the first 2.8 mm T cam, and honestly the AI seems to be almost non-functional.

Mounted 3m from floor and pointing down a narrow area behind house. I've walked up and down it in a zig zag for 30 seconds, wearing bright clothes and been entirely un-detected. Every so often I'll get a brief detection, but rarely. This is with sensitivity on HIGH.

I've tried the AI on the camera and also on the NVR (which seemed to maybe work very slightly better, but barely).

Having said that, it's entirely possible I've no idea what I'm doing and there are some settings i can adjust, the ai page on the NVR has many sub headings, I've just been using the stuff in the "SMD" sub menu.

Given the T cameras are supposed to do face recognition and identify clothing types etc, it would be strange if the cannot even detect a basic person. Any pointers to setup guides/tutorials or advice from experts would be most appreciated. Thanks!

For starts. TURN OFF MD and SMD

SMD is an overlay on top of old fashioned MD and MD must be enabled for SMD to work.
That said, they generally suck compared to real AI/IVS

Then Go to the actual AI section, enable ONLY IVS and setup a tripwire and overlapping Intrusion box for the area

Many people have commented that the t180 suffers from poor AI detection outside the middle third of the field of view, which is basically what you are experiencing.

I run AI during the day and basic MD at night.

Thanks for the extremely helpful reply. I note you are using the web interface, so far Ive not connected the NVR to the network (waiting for an IT guy i know to come and help me set up the firewall etc) so I've been using the inbuilt NVR interface. Does the web interface offer better control? I've found the on-device interface part-confusing\part basic.

This seems odd to me considering that physically it's two cameras , so you'd think the ai would at least be strongest in the hotspot of both\ either cam, not the zone where they merge. Ahh well, maybe using IVS as advised I'll get something a bit more usable.

On a related note, since you know the NVR, is it possible to add custom audio alerts? They appear to be wav files but i don't see how to add. The selection provided are not ideal. "You are under surveillance" gets old really fast!

I think the two cameras and blending to stitch one image is the primary issue with detection issues on the edges. One of the many reasons why we say it makes a great overview camera, but I wouldn't trust it to alert me like the other cameras. I have 4 of them, and they are good for overview.

I do believe i might have a clue as to why a) the 4kT wasn't detecting, and B) why the 180 doesn't detect well at the sides. Testing with another camera indoors, it seems it's highly sensitive to the person being vertical in the frame. My 4kT was mounted slightly rotated (5 -10 degrees maybe?) straightening it has improved detection quite a bit. I note also that if i lean to one side while walking the cam does not detect me! The 180 fov on the other cam obviously causes people to be non-vertical when at the sides of the view if it is pointing down at all.

Yes, testing indoors and waiving a hand in front of the camera or the camera sideways is a recipe for it not detecting.

The AI was designed for a whole person vertical in the frame at a distance more than a few feet away from the camera.
