Firmware upgrade failed - reboot loop (generic DVR H.265)

Hi everyone

I've just joined the forum and it looks like a mine of incredibly useful information - look forward to learning more as I wade through the threads!

I do have an issue with a DVR box - it is a generic H265 box. Quite often, it gets stuck on a firmware upgrade (which fails). I have turned off auto-update but it still appears to be "calling home" for an update/upgrade.

The salient information showing is:

System: V4.03.R11.0003123P.12001.132500.0000003
Build date: 03-11-2021

I have tried to update via the XMEYE App (Android) as well as the VMS app (Windows). I have not yet tried going to my attic (where the DVR is located) and upgrading via a USB. Should this be necessary?

As for the location of an upgrade...welcome to my hell :). I have found the following links (which match my V4.03.R11.0003123P requirements)

On opening the ZIP file, a BIN file is present. I have tried to upgrade using this - the system version does not change and my problem remains.

So...over to the Brains Trust if I may! My questions would be:

  • How can I stop the firmware upgrade loop and stop the box from calling home?
  • Where can I find the latest firmware for this unnamed, generic, box?
  • Can I tinker with the router settings (I'm with Virgin Media in the UK) and somehow block a range of ports (without losing my remote viewing via apps)?
  • Do I reset to factory settings and start again? If so, will the same blockage eventually occur?
