I grabbed some Hik cameras a few years ago and mostly used blue iris and tinycam monitor to view them.
I never had a need for 2 way audio on my phone until recently and decided to install the ivms4500 android app. the app wont pick up my cameras unless I choose China region (I'm in the US).
More recently I grabbed some LaView Pandas which dont seem to get picked up unless i choose US region.
From what I can tell my Hiks (from Julia btw) are hacked Chinese FW to be in english (it came that way). Telnetting confirms the existence of a CBX log "Cyclone Bit Xtra Patcher 0.0.7b"
So my question is ... what are my options to getting my Chinese Hiks playing nicely on US region IVMS tools?
Will this thread solve my problem? http://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread...2-firmware-on-China-region-cameras-to-English
This specifies getting english menus
Or would I be better off using the hiktools executable? http://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread...anguage-extract-files-and-create-own-firmware
this specifies changing the language flag (is that the same as getting english menus and working on US region-ed tools?). I'm thinking I should use this approach and do as it says in the OP
At this point it is possible to simply change the ‘Language flag’ by executing the following command, using ‘1’ for English or Multi, and ‘2’ for Chinese device. If you want flash english firmware to chinese IPC or NVR you need set language to 2:
hiktools lang digicap.dav 2
Does that sound remotely correct for my casE? Will that give me english menus and be able to use US region tools?
Additionally, if I wanted to update the firmware to more recent versions, would I just grab the latest chinese one and modify it using either of the above methods? Or would I end up grabbing a US firmware and doing the same?
Also, what is the differences between CBX's old service and the above 2 methods? Are the 2 methods the same, with one being a tool that does all the dirty work for you?
Apologies if these questions have been answered over and over, I'm new to the forum and these topics seem to have a lot of detailed information, but being new, it's hard to digest it all fully (and accurately) and I'm trying to not brick my existing cameras Thanks!
Another edit:
I have:
3MP cubes (DS-2CD2432F-IW) running V5.1.6 build 140412
and
3MP Bullets (DS-2CD2032-I) running V5.1.6 build 140412
Is there a better/best firmware version I should be using on them?
