Hi everyone -

So admittedly this is my first Blue Iris / security camera setup ever, and I'm not sure I'm setting up the motion detection / triggers appropriately as I'm virtually getting nothing sent to my mobile phone anymore since initial setup (2 days ago) when I had it sending me basically anytime there was movement detected anywhere. Now I've tried to setup so that I specifically get notified on very particular movement patterns, but they don't seem to be working.

The cameras I have installed (3 at the moment - need to install the other 2 this next weekend) are 5231s, and I'm on BI5.

I believe I've setup 3 profiles (specific to this camera) - but maybe I have to do something else so it switches to these automatically at the given time of day?

Profile 1 - Day time settings
Profile 3 - Night Time settings (discrete)
Profile 4 - Night Time settings (less discrete - alarm sound)

Basically for the front driveway, what I'm really trying to accomplish, is that If someone comes over off the street, crosses my sidewalk into my driveway.... should me a discreet alert during the day, especially if they're walking into zone B leading to my front door. I don't want to capture people leaving my place, just coming into my place.

During the night, i have some specific motions set such I want to through a less discrete alert sound on my phone.... their shouldn't be anybody approaching my front door, or walking through my side yard, or trudging through my bushes past 11pm at night. So if that happens, I want to know about it.

In any case, it doesn't seem to alert me. I have a dog (black lab) that constantly roams around (and no I don't WANT to be alerted when she's outside) but i would have thought it would have been picking at least her up throwing me some false positives... and it did at first when I very first set it up.

Below are my settings.

As an example... I just happened to be looking at my live feed... There was a lady walking her dog from the edge of the screen on the left (Zone D) all the way over by Zone E.... Not once did I see a box drawn or any type of detection / sensing to indicate it was at least tracking her... and then they end end up diverting and walking through my yard in Zone E out of sight... I would have expected to have been notified on that, but at the very least while i was watching it happen live, drawn a box or highlighted her and the dog... didn't happen. why?

During which profile did this lady and her dog walk through?

I don't see an explicit Zone crossing from D>E. Even if she went DC>E there is no Zone Crossing for those.

You're right - the first image I shared, I didn't have it updated, but it's updated now. I'm going to test it. The vehicles on their way home today both tripped it as expected... which was a good thing.

Also do you know if you can do 3 zone cross scenarios? As in DCA>B? Or is it limited to 2?

According to the help file you can do 3 zone crossings, but I haven't tried it in BI5 yet. Something to consider is there are some extremely good videos out on this topic: that'll be extremely helpful. I don't have a link to all his videos, but you'll likely see them if you watch that video.

My advice is to overhaul your zones setup if you can...the videos will help. Your zone setup seems more complicated than it needs to be, but I don't know what you need/want exactly. When watching the vids, keep the "G" zone in mind to connect your other zones...good luck!

Thanks I did setup the G Zone, and i did watch the videos, and go through the help file, but I still don't think this is completely working the way I thought.... I'm still kind of confused. As I alluded to, I'm trying to run different profiles. Green (Active), Red, and the Yellow one. Green is day, Red is night, Yellow is special case (during the night but sends different alerts).

I would expect that whatever profile is active, it would switch or indicate which profile it's currently running off of. Like for example, If Daytime (Profile 1) is set to run till 11pm, then at 11pm I would expect it would switch over to Profiles 3 and 4 which both start at 11pm and end at 6am.... I don't see anywhere where this is happening, at least not actively that I can monitor the switch in active profiles.

2nd - I can't figure out if in this picture, if the arrow is supossed to be green or the yellow bars to be active. Example... look at the 2 pictures below, If I change the drop-down to 1 Active (the green profile) the indicator shows a green triangle. If i switch it to 3, it turns to the yellow bars. And then when I go BACK to Profile 1, it still shows the yellow bars.... This is very confusing.... As I can't tell if my profiles are actually working or not.

Also I noticed something peculiar... In a Trigger Motion detection scenario... whereby, something crosses from Zone D to C to A.... Someone was in Zone D and it was sensing, then they crossed into C, and they paused.... then they went to A. It didn't trigger. Is there a setting somewhere I can change such that if the person / object pauses, it still continues to track them?

I think your object size is set way too high, especially for the far zones. Tweek the "contrast" and "object travels" down also. It takes a lot of walking around at different light conditions to get everything set somewhat good. Use the "highlight on motion" when walking to see how many pixels are flipping and watch on phone w/ UI3. I use the AB>C type crossings to eliminate a lot of false alarms, since you have tree canopy like me. It is still difficult to eliminate false alarms when the wind blows alot.

You can set the break time at the bottom of the trigger tab to 30 secs...that'll keep the detection on longer. The green triangle at the top of the page next to the profile number is the "run" indication...see below. Global schedule, you mentioned at 11pm you have a different profile set...presumably in the global schedule. Not sure why that's not happening like you want it to...send a screen shot of your global schedule?

RUN, HOLD AND TEMPORARY PROFILES
When a schedule is running normally and the active profile is set automatically, this is called the “run” state and a green play icon is shown.

When the active profile is overridden in some way, this is considered a temporary or transient state and a yellow pause icon is shown. The active profile will automatically revert and the schedule will return to the run state after an amount of time specified on the Profiles page in Settings. A value of ‘0’ for this setting will hold the profile indefinitely in the temporary state.

You may click the pause icon to immediately return to the run state. The profile and schedule may also be in a “hold” state where a red stop icon is shown. The active profile will remain until you act, regardless of the timeout setting on the Profiles page. You may hold down either the run or pause icons to force the hold state. Click the stop icon to return to the run state.

Here's my global schedule and profiles. I will try to take a picture of my live view before shortly before 11pm and shortly after.

I'm pretty sure you can only have one global profile active at a time. So if you have profile 3 under profile 4 on your schedule, I don't think you'll ever see profile 3 running with that setup because you've overwritten it with profile 4.

The temp time of 480 (min) is used for when you manually select a profile to run. It will run for that amount of time, then switch back to the appropriate profile.
