Aurora activity on Friday night (Aug 30-31, 2024) seen from east of Seattle
Although only KP2 energy was on the forecast, it actually went to KP5.

When I was having this house built in '06 my late dad asked me if I was going to have the local power utility co. install a street light. I said 'no' because having just spent over 29 years in Silicon Valley in northern CA I wanted to once again to witness the majesty and unparalleled beauty of the nighttime sky. There's so much you cannot see with all the ambient light surrounding you in a metro and even urban setting. I hadn't clearly seen the night sky since being born and raised in GA. I remember going up to my grandma's in rural north GA and me and a cousin laying on our backs in the grass in early September, looking up at the sky and watching for shooting stars. Even though the chiggers would make us pay for it later, we'd do it again the first chance we had.

I suspect kids these days would rather get on their phones or play a video game..........that's really too bad, IMO.

I wish my westward skies were as dark as towards the east. Still, I'm grateful for what viewing has been possible so close to Seattle and Bellevue. A little light pollution wipes out a lot of sights.
