Ok , for starters, not posted on these forums for AAAAAGES... It's good to be back.

So , I currently have a Blue Iris system running Open AI , it seems to be detecting cars / people etc fairly well.

Frigate has drawn my eye as a LOT of people are saying it's better at object recognition etc ( Over Open AI )

So, I have 2 main questions.

1) Should I just stick with my current BI system and Open AI , and just try to tweak it a bit better to get results closer to what I want?

2) Should I try out Frigate? I am just not sure if it is going to be too much of a pain in the a... to get set up.

Caveat on the Frigate Setup. It will be running on a Ryzen 5 machine with 24Gb RAM , it does have a Radeon Graphics card.
( To be specific , a Lenovo L14 Gen 1 laptop with a Ryzen processor )

I really would like to try Frigate but not quite ready to splash on a Google Coral device just yet till I get a proof of concept.

Integration into Home Assistant is something in consideration as well.

Thanks all

Since you asked, and if I was in your shoes, I'd say "yes", most definitely.
You probably have invested 10 years in your current BI setup and that says a lot, IMO.
I personally would not want to basically 'start all over' at my age learning another software when my current BI setup "....seems to be detecting cars / people etc fairly well."
Just my 2 cents.

No harm is trying out frigate - you don't need a coral using the openvino which works very well even on old gen intels. Says it should work with amd also.
I have it as a backup on a small mini pc i3 7th gen. inference speeds of 14ms using openvino model
