I need to purchase, some hardware to run NVR BI AI, I will run no more than 12 cameras. I can run windows11 or server '22, should i virtualize on the server to run the windows11 vm? or should i run windows11 on bare hardware, the machine will be dedicated for NVR. For either the VM server or the stand alone this will be new hardware. What machine/GPU SSD etc OS combo might perform best & reliable? would prefer a lower power consumption but not required.

That is a big question to ask, what budget are you thinking, as cheap as possible or a good high end system? Are you planning on using a Nvidia GPU or just use .NET for CPAI and just use the CPU? I would run windows 11 bare bone as you will need better hardware to virtualize windows 11 with the same performance!

Thank You, I can run windows 11 straight up on h/w, prefer Nvidei GPU, I would like to keep the total cost around 2k or less, excluding cameras .. assuming i need a larger board to support more SATA inputs for multiple HDD, anything else?

Most here do not use a GPU - since BI uses substreams, a GPU is pretty much useless unless you are going to be a heavy user of CodeProject AI.

And if low power consumption is a requirement, a power hungry inefficient GPU isn't going to help.

But if you have to buy cameras, they pretty much all come with AI built-in, so CodeProject isn't really needed.

Most here have a great system going with an off lease purchased 8th or 9th gen or newer computer for $200ish. Spending $2K will not improve your performance.

People are running 30 cameras just fine off a 4th gen they picked up for $25 at the county auction.

You are overthinking the requirements for BI.
