Hi everyone,

I've got the following hikvision cams:

8mp ColorVU : DS-2CD2087G2-L x 4 cams
8mp Panoramic ColorVu: DS-2CD2387G2P-LSU/SL x 2 cams

(Planning to add vehicles license plate recognition camera later.)

the NVR:
Hikvision DS-7608NXI-i2/8p/S with 20TB (10+10) HDD.

The cams are connected to a POE switch which is connected to a router.

The nvr is connected to the same router.

Recording setting:

  • Continuous recording for all cameras 4k , 20fps, 8192kbps bitrate, H265.
  • Human/Vehicle detection using substream 640x480 20fps 2048kbps bitrate.

One problem I'm facing is the NVR can't handle the panoramic cams playback smoothly, its recording resolution is 5120x1440p.

Also NVR lacks customization and not as user friendly as other PC-based NVRs.

Now I thought I may get a PC and install Blur Iris and/or Frigate to get the best results.

I have the following devices at home and can dedicate one of them to the CCTV / home assistant:

  • i7-4790 / 16gb ddr3
  • Ryzen 5 2600 / 16gb ddr4 / RX 570 4GB
  • i5 9400f / 16gb ddr4 / GTX1650
  • i5 6500 / 8gb
  • Raspberry pi 4 8gb

Does recording directly to disk needs good cpu/gpu? Can raspberry pi 4 8gb handle the recording?

Any suggestions regarding bitrates, framerate, .. ?

Thanks.
