Any tips to prevent problems purchasing from China's Aliexpress?
Such as payment being denied by the CC company or such?

It has been no hassle at all for me, but I've heard of people having to provide a scan of their government issued ID for identity verification with Aliexpress. Perhaps after a denied transaction they require this ... I don't remember the details.

Some people recommend calling the card provider to let them know about an upcoming purchase but that always seemed like a long shot to me.

I was looking on ali the other day, I have never bought from them but the cam I was looking at was offered on New Egg for about $15 more and the same shipping time. Seems New Egg has quite a few Dahua Cameras fairly cheap. I was looking at a IPC-HFW4431R-Z to replace my garage bullet that keeps on cutting out on me.Amazon had it for $125 shipped in 2 days in stock. Being i wanted it now I bought from Amazon and will have it tomorrow. I would rather pay the extra $15 dollars and buy from New Egg. If it is doa or I do not like it, at least I have a better chance of getting my money back than trying to fight with a Asian seller. The specs look pretty good, I have installed a bunch of 3mp with motorized lenses like this and they have been rock solid.

Newegg does stock some cameras, but beware they also are a marketplace for Chinese sellers just like Amazon, Ebay, and Aliexpress. Pay attention to who is actually selling the item or you might be in for month long shipping time anyway!

All my Ali payments go to a process center in the U.S. (Dover, Delaware), so it's not an international payment charged to my card. Only had an issue one time and that was when I ordered multiple items, each over $50, in the same day. After several successful orders, the card suddenly got denied for the next order. Turns out, the bank just put a freeze on my card because it triggered their fraud detection system. Called the bank, explained the situation, within 5 minutes the card was unfrozen and ready for more orders.

If I ever get a block from Ali and request for personal info, I would probably just create a new account and/or use a different card. I had to do this with Paypal a few years ago when they suddenly froze my account and requested picture ID, etc...Just registered a new account and it's worked fine for years.
