I am in the market to buy someone a dvr and 5 cameras soon. They already have coaxial ran and don't need or want to run any more. They are using an old black and white monitor that broke with no name black and white bullet cameras...

I was leaning towards hd-cvi cameras but I am worried about the format being dead after a while and they will have to buy a whole new setup. What do you think will last longer tvi or cvi?

Any other advantages towards each one? Seems there are a variety of cameras for both.

I'd bite the bullet and run network cameras LOL.

But to more specifically answer your question, I googled and found this: https://www.security-camera-warehouse.com/knowledge-base/hd-sdi/

I don't know how accurate it is, but they placed their bets on HD-TVI surviving longer. Makes sense, unless their article lied to me.

Well I installed one camera and HD TVI from LTS today, it has very good quality. Able to read text on a certificate from about 8 or 9 feet away. Very nice, surprisingly close to IP. I don't think I will run new cable.
