Hi everybody !!

Im new here after lurking for a week or so .
i used to run a security company many many years ago .
i used to concentrate on mid/large sized "leased equipment" projects , and did some interesting work with local authorities , police forces , government agencies , and multi-nationals etc .
this was around 25 years ago though , when I lived in England , and we used to have to hire delivery trucks to get some of our ir-ptz assemblies to site !! :D

Now all all that running conduit for 240v and 75ohm co-ax is in the past , I'm looking for a more upto date installation of cat5 for our house in California , and that's what brought me here .

i still know the basics of electronic security , but I'm way outbof touch with the ip side of it ...

heres a couple of links to me , in my past . Check the dates ... It's way in my past !!

Sounds like you had a great business and were doing it the right way. I'm a newbie, so I can't help you at all, but I can at least say welcome.

Sony currently make a lot of the sensors used across the industry. Of course their own cameras are 2 or 3 generations ahead of what they sell to most others. Sony currently do pretty much the best WDR and backlight compensation on the market at the moment.
Pelco dropped the ball a number of years ago. They went through a phase of OEMing a lot of gear and got a seriously bad reputation with some LG made DVR's. They also came to market early with their "Endura" CCTV platform, but unfortunately it was a bit premature and there wasn't enough Viagra in the world to keep an Endura system up for long enough to be usable. They've improved, but like most they sold out to a big company (Schneider) who slashed R&D and they've pretty much become an also-ran. They still do great PTZ mechs, but their cameras have some catching up to do.

As for multiplexers, Dedicated Micros are still around, but again have been relegated to a bit player. A lot of "old school" CCTV companies just didn't see IP coming as quickly as it did. Some are gone, some are still catching up and some are way ahead of the curve.

Dedicated micros where based around 5 miles from our facility , so we had a great working relationship with them .
im only a little guy , so had to get help loading their multiplexers into racks !!! Lol

in my day it was all about using the best 1/2" ccd resolution and pairing it with a quality 1" lens to make the most of it .
ive not looked , but I'm guessing lenses still have the best image quality in the center as it's harder to grind to perfection around the edge of the circle ???

i spent many many many hours walking around sites with a perambulator and a lens calculator !!! :D

(AxA)+(BxB)=square-root ......
