Thanks for adding me! I have a 2 story building and live in the top level and have my shop in the main level. Looking to install a new system. I've read several posts here. Decided I need a 16 channel NVR with Poe... Still trying to figure out which cameras. Any help would be appreciated.
The one tricky location... I have a pole about 30 feet from the back of my building that I want to put a camera on to watch my overhead door and back of building. I will be hard wiring all cameras.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and make sure the NVR and cameras are from the same manufacturer

Welcome!

See this thread for the commonly recommended cameras (along with Amazon links) based on distance to IDENTIFY that represent the overall best value in terms of price and performance day and night.

The Importance of Focal Length over MP in camera selection
Thanks for the link! I read the links you provided. Very informative! Also saw another one of your posts to another newb... So do you think I should buy a camera or 2 first, before buying a NVR? If so, why?
I'm thinking the 5442 ZE or 5842 ZE camera will be best for mounting on the pole that is about 30 feet from the back of my building... however I noticed that those cameras are not made in USA. Are there any that are USA made?

Look here as our Andy is having a sale!

The mistake many people make is they buy all the cameras at once and then realize they don't have the right camera or focal length for what they want to accomplish.

So it is best to buy one and play with it and move it around to the various locations to make sure the correct cameras are bought.

With one camera you can log into the camera GUI and it is close to an NVR in terms of look/feel and use (although the NVR will have more features) and the DMSS app works the same. You can also load up on a Windows computer BI and try the free demo and see which system works best for you.

But if you know 100% the NVR is for you then go ahead and buy, but buy one with more channels than you need. People think they need 6 cameras and buy an 8 channel NVR and then later want more cameras, so go up to the next level.

Regarding 5442 versus 5842, keep in mind the don't chase MP. Both of those are on the same sensor so the 5442 will perform better at night unless you have stadium quality light.

Sadly, if there are any cameras USA made they will cost a lot more and not be as good quality.
