Welcome.
Lesson 1.
Don't upgrade camera firmware for the sake of upgrading.
That said, some doorbell cams reachout for a firmware upgrade as part of intial setup.
Nothing you can do about that.

People come in here all the time, disappointed with the results of firmware upgrades.

If you plan on running Blue Iris, avoid the temptation to save money with Reolink camera's,
the key frame setting on them is not ideal for Blue iris.
If your about to buy a camera you can certainly ask around as to whether or not it has a decent reputation.

I found this forum after enough crime around the Condo that I manage, showed me I needed eyes outside.
It's easy to get influenced by marketing and Amazon and product reviews.
I bought a decent Hikvision OEM ( Jidetech) PTZ as my 1st IP camera.
the Optics are good, but the UI is bad.

But I din't know about the value/importance of a good User interface.
and that camera has a Pleistocene UI translated from early Denisovan cave scrawl.

The most basic rules of surveillance cameras -

Rule #1 - Cameras multiply like rabbits.
Rule #2 - Cameras are more addictive than drugs.
Rule #3 - You never have enough cameras.
