Hi all,
I'm looking to setup a system using 50 of the DS-2CD2142FWD-I hikvision cams:
Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co. Ltd.

Reading through the forum, it's looking like BlueIris is the only want to go for a PC based system. But I have not found much info regarding these amount of cams on a single system.

If we do go with the BI route, what kind of hardware should I be looking to build?
CPU: Intel i7
RAM: min of 16gb... maybe more like 32gb?
SSD for Win 10 64bit Pro
HDD looking at 3 WD Purple 6TB drives (18TB Total)

Will be recording on Motion, however 14 hours a day, all 50 cam's may be recording non-stop from motion.

Thanks for the help!
Tom

I'm in research mode and new at this. I will have a system in May for testing. So, more informed people will chime in to correct me. Some things you need to be thinking about:

  • 4MP is a lot when factored out by 50 times. Consider 2MP.
  • 4MP is a lot if you want 30 days of storage, you're over 70TB!
  • Avigilon is PC based and more CPU efficient vs Blue Iris.
The i7-8700K (BI's current best recommended) will not handle your situation - I don't think. This is why you'll need to consider software that is more optimized.

Cant seem to find any pricing for the Avigilon Standard software

So maybe a standalone NVR would be a better solution to this rather then PC based?

That is a question for you to decide based on how flexible of a recording and monitoring solution you are after. What is important to you? Cost? Easy to use, this feature or that?

There are other VMS like Milestone Systems and Digital Watchdog.

Ultimately, you may need to distribute the the load between multiple servers or nvrs.
