Hikvision - DVR DS-7204HUHI-K1 (bootpara error - undefined mem for bootpara!) TTL Serial

Hi all,

I have a bricked DVR since a powercut a while back, I recently got the UART cable & TTL adapter to see about recovering the DVR.
I followed the guide here; Hikvision - Clearing Passwords and/or Loading Firmware via TTL Serial

however even though i'm able to push firmware to the device, no matter which suitable version of firmware I push over TFTP I get the following error on reboot;

interestingly I managed to get it to boot on a few occasions;

fristly I did;

setenv bootcmd ';update'

then ran; (when the above gave the same errors as above post)

setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/ram0 rw
initrd=0x82000000 init=/bin/sh
setenv bootcmd 'tftp 0x82000000 uImage; update'

would crash into busy box & on occasion boot into the full kernel.
I would get the setup page again as first time user, but then on reboot would revert to

bootpara error!
