Hikvision H.265+?

8 hours of recording in 1 segment (268.5MB), the quality doesn't look bad at all. The downside is that only vsplayer can play it. I have yet to find anything that can convert it to a "normal" video file. Format converter 4.0.1 does not support it.

What is so special about H.265+? Is it essentially VBR? On DS-2CD3345 that does not support H.265+, a segment (268.5MB) H.265 recording is much shorter (~5 minutes). H.265+ saves like 99% of space, but how?

It does not save 99% of space,
it depends on motion around the camera...

more motion occupies more space
less motion occupies less space

remember still it records on continuous 24 x 7

I read the whitepaper and the space/bps/cpu saving is indeed significant. Any drawbacks?

It is essentially VBR + R frame

What about normal H.265 (non +) on these new line-up ? Can it be read with normal players ?
