Hello all, firstly I pray you are all safe and doing well in these uncertain times.

With so much time on my hands at the moment, I have decided to investigate things my current cameras can and cannot do and came across a couple of areas I am drawing blanks (not shooting them) on finding out information, hoping someone might be able to help out
First question

I have a Hikvision 7608NI-I2-8P NVR and a few different Hikvisions cams the newest being the 2CD2385FWD-I oldest being the 2CD2332-I, I am trying to work out the picture capture on event capability of the 2385 and getting a little confused, I have the NVR capturing pictures on event no issue but the resolution of the pics ios very ordinary. Looking at thee settings on the NVR for picture capture the highest I can select is 704x576 which ic average, but looking directly on the camera under capture parameters the only res I can select is 3072x2048 for picture capture.

Can I get the camera to take the pictures on events instead of the NVR as the res will be a lot higher and where would the images store too?

Thank you in advance and please stay safe

At a guess the restriction might be in the NVR, perhaps due to a limitation in what it can process. Although the camera is capable of capturing the higher res stills, if you're managing recording using the NVR you'd not be able to save those higher res stills on the NVR, as the cameras interface is unaware of the NVR as a storage destination (NVR is requesting stream from camera)

The only thing I could think of is if you added an SD card (only available on your 2385's) you might be able to save them to the card when configured in camera. Another possibility (never tried it) would be to use a NAS connected to a spare POE port on the NVR and configured on the 192.168.254.xxx network. You could possibly then configure the NAS as storage in each camera (Storage > Storage Management > Net HDD).
