Hikvision NVR with more cameras than channels

Hi everyone,

I have never purchased an NVR before and I have a few questions, if you have the time for me

Currently I have bought 3 Hikvision cameras ( 2 from China/Aliexpress, 1 from a dealer in my country in the EU) and I wish to connect them to a (Hikvision?) NVR.

First, I would like to place the NVR in 1 location and the cameras in a second one i.e. not on the same LAN. Are there any reasons why this would not work?

Second, I would like in the future to purchase more cameras and connect them to the NVR. Since the NVRs are pretty expensive, I was thinking to buy one with 4 channels, but connect more than 4 cameras to it. Would this be supported? Will it be able to record the >4 FullHD streams and then play it back on demand?

Hi,

You can only connect as many cameras as you have Channels. Don't scrimp on the NVR as you'll kick yourself when you want to add the fifth camera.. Or in my case the Ninth..
