Maybe someone with more experience with Hikvision hardware can shed some light on this subject.
I am trying to figure out if a Hikvision NVR with Motion Detection 2.0 would be able to detect motion and identify person/vehicle using a video stream from a random IP camera.
I have searched the web and cannot find a definitive answer.
I have a Dahua NVR with 4 Dahua IP cameras (2 have person/vehicle detection built in), and they work fine, but I also have 3 other IP cameras that I cannot use with the NVR. (not even via RTSP)
I would like to use a Hikvision NVR with Motion Detection 2.0 to detect motion with people/vehicle identification with all of the cameras.
Would this work or can the NVR only do people/vehicle detection when using Hikvision cameras?
The NVR I'm considering is the DS-7608NXI-K2.
Any advice would be appreciated.

You didn't wrote what are those other cameras?
if there aren't hik-vision and they don't support RTSP - then HIK NVR will also don't support it...

this nvr is low-line acusense one...
yes it can do motion detection 2.0 on all channels, but please remember that You must also check decoding capabilities (to analyse video NVR must decode it) - with AI on it supports decoding only 4 channels 4MPX or 8 channels 1080p (everything is spec sheet)...

Ok, so technically if the cameras support rtsp it would work at 1080p for all channels?
Are ONVIF cameras also supported? (I was under the impression that my Dahua NVR would be able to record video (only record) from RTSP and ONVIF cameras, but the software prevents me from connecting other cameras although they are detected)

If your "other" cams don't work with Dahua NVR, then there is huge probability that they will not work with HIK NVR...

What are those camera?
Does they support ONVIF?
if yes - Dahua should support them...

Are You enabled ONVIF support on cameras?
Are You created ONVIF admin user with password on camera? (there are usually separate list of users/password for normal and ONVIF use on cameras)
On which port those cameras support ONVIF? sometimes You must add manuall a ONVIF camera (using manual add) and specify full URL to ONVIF with camera IP address and ONVIF port number..

If camera don't support ONVIF, there is way do add by RTSP..
Click manual add and check does You NVR support 'Custom' manufacturer?

If not, You must install RTSP fix as firmware for Your NVR model:

To add RTSP camera You must known RTSP URLs to streams on each camera.
You should check using VLC does they work (display video from camera)..

Click of manual add, select Custom as manufacturer and then specify both RTSP URLs plus user/password data...

Thanks I will check if there is a RTSP fix for my NVR. Previously when I checked I could not enter the RTSP stream address manually, so it did not work.
I will also check if there is a different user/pass for ONVIF on the camera. (previously it would show detected on NVR, but it would not connect using the admin username and password.
The main issue is however that I need preson/vehicle detection on the RTSP stream and my current NVR does not support this, so I am trying to find out if it would work using the Hikvision NVR as it say that it supports Motion Detection 2.0 which seem to include person/vehicle detection for 3rd party cameras.

Ask someone who is using HIK NVR..
I'm Dahua NVR specialist, not HIK..

I am not trolling, and and it was a genuine question, and I was not aware that this was a Dahua forum.
That is why I put the question under the Hikvison thread as there is one.

I know that my Dahua NVR will not do person detection on a RTSP stream and that is why I am asking about Hikvision's NVR.

It wasn't about you :)
yes this is hik subforum, but as You see no one answered for Your question...
90% forum traffic is about Dahua...

ps. Dahua also have NVRs with AI onboard.. at this moment all actual models can do SMD (smart motion detection) on any cameras...

Ok, I will also look at the Dauha ones. I have a NVR4XXX-4KS2L and as far as I could see it ins not available on these, and most of the Hikvision ones support Motion Detection 2.0 which I suspect has the functionality that I am looking for.
I did the firmware fix on my NVR and can now see and record RTSP streams, thanks.

4ks2 line is from 2016-2017..
So yes it don't have any AI functionality..

Actual models are 5xxx-EI/4xxx-EI...
