I’ve had BI running for a few years, but a while back I started using home assistant on a different pc as a VM. I’m considering trying scrypted, but I’m kinda stuck on the hardware end of things.

I know I need to install HA and scrypted inside proxmox, but this will be new territory for me. I have a micro i5-8500T/32GB and an i5-7400/12GB tower with two 14TB purples.

Do I need to upgrade a pc to run HA and Scrypted on one? If I can get hardware and storage figured out, I’d probably give the proxmox thing a try. Any advice?

Both the i5-8500t and the i5-7400 have quicksync, which is one of the object identifier accelerator scrypted nvr uses. the base scrypted VM sets the memory to 16GB, though with 5 cameras I haven't seen it go over 6GB used. right now my scrypted is on an i5-7500t mini pc, but moving to an n100 soon. I would recommend having a separate drive for VM storage and use the purples for camera storage, but i'm sure you could get away with just the purple's, though you will probably have extensive IO wait. There is also a cluster feature that is currently in beta. It will let you use multiple servers to handle object recognition as your needs grow. It isn't ready yet, I tried it. But it will be great for me since I have a proxmox cluster apart from my NVR that can handle some of the oject detection when it's ready.

I am liking scrypted, it has a nice UI, but is not a feature rich as Blue Iris and has only one developer.

in short, I think you can use what you have.
