I've been to the BI web site and there is very little information on just how the service works when when it comes to remote access other than it works. I'd like to know how much data goes where, and for how long in order to make remote viewing possible. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Also, is the $60 one time, or is it ever month, or year, or what?

Blue Iris doesn't host any offsite servers, the $60 is a one time software or support fee.

The remote viewing procedure is exactly like 99% of the products out there, it requires an open port to the server and the clients knowledge of the server ip (ddns). The software does now include a ddns mechanism for tracking IP address, and it has a upnp services for setting up the port of common routers.

The amount of traffic it uses is up to you, you can set the wan streaming settings in app, or on the webserver settings.

Hopefully one day, a remote access connection can be done more intelligently and without open ports, but not sure how that will work without an offsite server and a recurring fee.
