How to determine lenses?

Wide angle is always great to see what the heck the crazies are doing on my property...but we're sold on the starlights and Nayr's good reviews have alerted me to the next problem: determining the bullet camera's lense (or to get varifocal turrets). We were wondering if you all can describe what cameras are the best value based on these ranges for SD backup Dahua starlights...

Porch dome
  • 1 recessed dome. Porch is typically lit but frequent power outages.
Bullets/Turrets on 4x4 posts.
  • 1 for getting license plates off cars that come down the driveway ~15'-70' range
  • 1 watching the patio (dimly lit) ~20-40' range
  • 3 in the side yard area ~30' range
(Budget <$200 per camera)
We'd like to order a quiet(ish) Dahua NVR and at least a handful of test cams this week.

just get varifocals and dont worry about it; but wait until I review these new Z5 bullets that have 35mm optics for the distances your needing.. the 12mm wont reach much past 30-35ft and thats pushing it... pricing should be similar to the 12mm varifocals

Aliexpress appears to be down, but I'll check how these 35mm guys work with the budget! Perhaps set up the porch and nvr for now.

This is all we need for the porch right?

For a 20-30' range for example... varifocals actively help to sharpen the image as a person moves around, right? Or is it more for set-up adjustibility?

I will plan to go with varifocals. But while I'm learning, can anyone provide what optic is usually used (2.7mm-12mm) for varying distances?
