Howdy!

Hey everyone. My house was burglarized recently and it's pushed me to venture into the world of IP cameras. I've found them intriguing over the eyars and wanted to learn about them but I found the technical aspects of them intimidating. I'll do my best to research the basics and set up a system that's right for my situation. I'll likely start a new thread showing the areas I'd like to watch and potential locations for the NVR.

Many thanks in advanced to all.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

I wasn't sure where I should start asking dumb questions but I figured it's better that I start somewhere than not get started at all.

Is it necessary to have a desktop PC to run PoE Cameras? Can I just set up the NVR to my router and wire all the Cameras from there?

I'm uncertain what specs would best suit the three locations I've shown in the photos. Balcony 1&2 are actually the left and right side of the same balcony. Balcony 3 is a separate balcony. The stop sign is of particular interest because people tend to drive the wrong way through the fork and some trash like to roll their windows down and litter in my yard after they roll through the stop sign.

I'm planning on mounting all the cameras from the ceiling. What would you guys recommend? Also, if this isn't an appropriate place for me to post this stuff, please let me know and I'll find a more appropriate sub.

As for an NVR I was thinking of https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X4UDMJ4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

with https://www.amazon.com/Purple-Surveillance-Hard-Disk-Drive/dp/B00IMPO5OW/ref=pd_bxgy_421_img_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=484N8P91PE0DP4HNBV1B
