Ideal Un-allocated space to have?

Around the internet you can find "advice" to not fill mechanical drives past something like 80% for best performance, but for Blue Iris there isn't really a reason to leave any un-allocated space as long as the drive is dedicated to BI recordings. Maybe a few GB of extra space if you've got the clip database there, or so Windows can use some for virtual memory.
All my machines I just leave like 30GB free and haven't ever had a problem...
The ONLY time I've had a problem is when I was trying to use the "Limit Clip Age" setting and had the time set for too long. For some reason the HD kept getting corrupt when it filled up so I stopped using it
