Hi all,

Neighbor got robbed recently and he knows I'm a camera fanatic. He asked for advice on cameras, but he is primarily looking for indoor cameras since he has a bunch of outside cameras already (he only needs 1 or 2 more outdoor cameras covering trails to his house). I'm a bit worried since I've never done indoor cameras, and he has entrusted this in me. He also wants everything over Wi-Fi....which I warned him is a bad idea. The issue is his house is a nightmare to wire, and he doesn't want to drill holes. So, it has to be over Wi-Fi.

So, I've been asking around the forums and I think I found the best indoor Wi-Fi camera....the Amcrest 2MP:
I also said I would upgrade his old NVR with a new PC + Blue Iris....that's no issue for me.

Back to indoor cameras....Is the amcrest truly the best option? I can't really stick these high in the corner of rooms since it needs to be plugged in. So, I would have to find a place near electrical outlets to place them on tables.

Or should I just grab some battery powered cameras like ARLO and stick them up in the corner of rooms?

Please help out here....i don't want to disappoint the old man next door.

Thanks all.

What about using powerline adapters that run the data over the electric lines - much more stable than wifi and opens up the better POE cameras.

Stay away from arlo. Amcrest would be better as you can at least set shutter speeds.

Please tell me more...I've actually never heard of this before. Ill try googling but appreciate any guidance.

interesting ....didn't even know its possible.

Would 1 gig be sufficient? found the TP-Link version:

Would you agree amcrest would be a top pick for an indoor? Or do you have other experience/better recommendations?

1 gig is more than enough. Mine are ancient and are 100Mbps and running 4 cams through it.

Many of us use that Amazon inside. It is cheap and you can get away with it because of so much infrared bounce off the walls.

Obviously the Empiretech cameras would be better, but if on a budget, the Amcrest would be ok.

Do these have to be on the same breaker circuit in the house to work?

The closer the better, but I have one going thru a sub panel to the main panel.

Every house is different, so the only way to know is to try it.
