Joined recently. I am really impressed with the information available on the forums.
I am thinking of installing 4 DS-2CD2142FWD-I(W/S) on top my 2-story home - 2 at the front and 2 at the back. I will appreciate if experts on this forum guide me as I am new to camera surveillance system.
I have following questions :
1) Do I, absolutely, need a NVR if I go with "W" version and use onboard microSD storage? I do not need 24-hr recording, IMHO, as this is for residential use. HikVision NVR with 8 ports, 2 TB will cost me approx. $200 - $300+ and I may hesitate to spend that much unless it is absolutely necessary.
2) Can I use a 4 or 8 port POE injector switch instead of NVR? Is it advisable to use Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6 cables?
3) How secure and reliable will/is the WiFi connection? I have AT&T PACE/2WIRE 5268AC Gateway Modem Router.
