I'm having a hard time getting a IPC-Color4k-X to work using POE from a Mikrotik hAP ac3 router/AP.

The Mikrotik specs indicate that it has passive POE (not 802.1af or at).

Does anyone have any experience with this working or not working?

Thanks!

From what I've read, the "passive" POE power that the Mikrotik hAP ac3 supplies is not to any industry standard and as such usually doesn't work with non-Mikrotik devices. You'll need to use a POE injector in order to provide enough power to the camera. That or get a POE network switch that actually sends out industry standard POE voltages.

I ordered an 802.11AF/AT injector and will install.

I've googled the difference between passive and active (i.e., devices that conform to one of the standards such as 801.11af or at) and it seems conforming to the standard means there is a negotiation or handshake between poe providing device and poe utilizing device whereby, in part, a low voltage is initially provided and the current draw is monitored (which should indicate that the poe device is working and what class of poe the poe device is).

Basically, I've learned not to use any passive POE ports.

Thanks guys!
